Edit Elias is a Dublin based photographer who has recently received a BA Honours Degree in Photography from Dublin Institute of Technology. Her most recent practice predominantly investigates socio-cultural issues, both local and global, which operates on the axis of documentary photography and socially engaged art. The principal aim of her work is to creatively communicate and highlight often hidden or distorted social matters, underpinned by collaborative strategies in order to provide a platform for disadvantaged social groups for their voice to be heard. Through her practice, she aims to activate and advance the spectator’s critical thinking skills by which the grounds for new possibilities for art as activism can be developed further. Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions nationally including the Gallery of Photography and The Copper House Gallery in Dublin, and the Engage, Providers Building as part of Crúthu Festival in Longford.
